AUDITS

Handling an audit the right way at the beginning is the best way to get a quick resolution.

Type of Dispute

The IRS audits between one and two percent of all returns that are filed each year. The California Franchise Tax Board (FTB), Employment Development Department (EDD) and California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) each audit many more returns, often on specific issues. Audit issues range from substantiation of deductions to reconstruction of income to complex multi-national or multi-state examinations. Other types of audits include payroll tax audits with the IRS and EDD, sales tax audits with the CDTFA and gift and estate tax audits with the IRS. It is best to resolve each audit as quickly as possible. The key to a successful resolution is to get the auditor to focus on appropriate issues, provide the necessary information and resolve the case within the normal statute of limitations, without extension.
